Alice Cooper Sees Self as Two Personalities

DETROIT (AP) — When Alice Cooper is not on stage beheading dummies and entwining himself with snakes while singing rock songs, he says he likes to "play golf, drink beer and be quiet."

Offstage, Alice Cooper is Vincent Furnier, who was born here 26 years ago.

He came home last weekend to premier his new movie "Good to See You Again, Alice Cooper." He says he also came to chat with friends, drink a few beers and well, just be normal.

"I'm not a sexy guy," he insists. "I'd never act in a porno movie or anything like that. I just like to play golf, drink beer, and be quiet."

But once onstage, he says his "Frankenstein" takes over.

"There's more to performing than just sitting around with a guitar and singing," he said. "It's all theater, man, you've got to get the audience to react.

"We've all got that other side, that Frankenstein. I just go out there and Alice takes over."

He said that affluence, sex and violence created Alice, his stage persona, who grosses about $4 million per national tour. He has sold 10 million records since 1968.

"It's what people want," he said of his act. "They're crazy."
