Bid to Ban Alice Cooper

AMERICAN pop star Alice Cooper was accused by an MP today of "peddling the culture of the concentration camp." Labour’s MP Leo Abse is to ask Hom Secretary Robert Carr to ban the entry of the male musician, who was reported to be planning a tour of Britain.

The demand for Mr Carr to revoke Alice Cooper’s entry permit will be made in the Commons on Thursday.

Mr Abse said today that pop music could help teenagers to develop "caring" attitudes. "But that is not part of Cooper’s scene," he said.

"His incitement to infanticide and his commercial exploitation of masochism is evidently an attempt to teach our children to find their destiny in hate, not love."

A spokesman for Cooper’s record company said there were no plans for an immediate British tour.

"Alice will finish his American tour on June 3rd, and then plans to rest. It is unlikely that a tour of Britain could be fixed up before the autumn — if he intends to stage his show here again.
