The Detroit II concert on April 1 is finally going to give Atlanta a chance to hear the hard-driving rock and roll that is characteristic of that part of the planet. Detroit II features Alice Cooper, Brownsville Station and regretfully, the Amboy Dukes. The Dukes are repeaters from the Detroit I concert, which was an insult to that style of music, with the exception of the Bob Seger System. I am disappointed that Seger or an equally explosive band such as the Up Rock and Roll Co. could not have been brought back instead of the Amboy Dukes.
But Alice Cooper and Brownsville Station would easily carry the concert. The title of Alice Coper’s new album, Love It To Death, perfectly describes my reactions. From the opening guitar licks of “Caught in a Dream” through the incredible lyrical power of “I’m Eighteen” and the weird hypnotic drums of “Black Juju” to the bizarre pictures on the record jacket, this album will do good things to your mind and body.
