Snake Warms Alice's Heart

The rigors of life on the road claimed another casualty some five years ago when Yvonee, the 'Killer' cover girl and a featured performer in the Alice Cooper show, slithered into obscurity somewhere in the Nashville Holiday Inn. Cooper recently announced auditions to find a suitable replacement for Yvonne.

A healthy crowd of media people and lunch-hour gawkers assembled in the mall of the ABC Entertainment Complex in Century City to witness a reptilian version of 'A Star is Born' as nineteen would-be stars strutted their serpentine stuff for a five person panel composed of Alice, Flo & Eddie, Jaye P.Morgan and someone named Safari Arnie. The entries ranged from your basic garter snakes to the performance of Cherise, a professional dancer-acrobat who appeared complete with costume, two roadies and a reported 300 pounds of snakes entwining her torso. The winner, a 10 foot Boa constrictor named Angel and owned by seven year old Gandhi Newman of Van Nuys, made her professional debut the following evening on the Tonight Show.

A Cooper spokesman insisted that the snake had signed a contract for personal performances only. Rumors that a recording deal was part of the package were unfounded, he added. However, in keeping with Alice's well dedication to the principles of equal opportunity employment, Cooper is reportedly pressing for the inclusion of a clause in his contract stipulating that the promoter supply Angel with food (one rat) in the same manner he does for the musicians in the show.
